Vanderhye Blows Past Comstock- Again

Margi Vanderhye Once Again Out-raises her Opponent in her Bid for Re-election

Campaign finance reports released by the State Board of Elections confirmed the buzz around the 34th House of Delegates District in northern Virginia. Delegate Margi Vanderhye is poised to win again.

Delegate Vanderhye out-raised her nationally funded opponent, Barbara Comstock, by almost $30,000 for the September reporting period. At the end of September, Vanderhye also had almost $27,000 more cash on hand than Comstock.  This is not the first time Vanderhye has out-raised her opponent.  Vanderhye reported raising more than Comstock in the SBE reports for the June 30th deadline and the August 31th deadline. Margi receives endorsement from Virginia agriculture group

Margi Vanderhye recently received the endorsement for Virginia AgPAC, a political action committee of Virginia Farm Bureau Federation, in the race for the 34th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates

Vanderhye said, "I am really excited to receive the endorsement from (the agpac). Agriculture is our number one industry in Virginia with $55 billion in revenue. I want to work with them to promote a new "green industry" in Virginia while preserving and enhancing the traditional economies that were instrumental in Virginia's founding. We can honor our past by working together for a bright future in agriculture."

"Each of these candidates has demonstrated a clear understanding of the needs of agriculture and forestry or has a favorable voting record in support of agriculture and Farm Bureau issues," said Wayne F. Pryor, chairman of Virginia AgPAC and VFBF President.

The non-partisan Virginia AgPAC was created by Farm Bureau in 1999 and employs in-kind contributions to support candidates who can best support agriculture and Farm Bureau issues. VFBF is Virginia's largest farmers' advocacy group, with 147,000 members in 88 county Farm Bureaus. Delegate Vanderhye wrote and sponsored legislation in the 2009 legislative session that allowed for farmers to easily transform animal waste to energy, providing a renewable resource for the state of Virginia without burdening the Farming community.

Governor Kaine Signs Vanderhye’s HB 2200 into Law

Creates public-private fund to support cancer treatment for uninsured women

February 25, 2009

For Immediate Release

Richmond, VA – On February 23, Governor Tim Kaine signed HB 2200 into law, creating the “Breast and Cervical Prevention and Treatment Fund.” Introduced by Delegate Margaret Vanderhye (D-McLean) and Senator Mary M. Whipple (D-Arlington), the legislation creates a public-private fund for non-governmental donations and voluntary tax refund contributions that will be used to expand eligibility for treatment under the federal Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Act (BCCPTA). The expansion will help cover medical costs for hundreds of uninsured Virginia women at risk for or diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer.

"This new law is the product of extensive teamwork over the course of an entire year,” Said Delegate Vanderhye. “I knew that we would have to adopt an innovative approach to funding this important program, because Virginia, like many states, has a budget shortfall. Senator Whipple and I worked with health care specialists, cancer advocates, and hospital foundations to create a funding source that will qualify for federal matching funds with no additional cost to our taxpayers. I am gratified that we will now be able to dramatically increase access to treatment for our Virginia women confronting breast or cervical cancer."

Delegate Vanderhye Wins Environmental Recognition

Virginia League of Conservation Voters Scorecard Delegate Margi Vanderhye has been named a "Legislative Hero" by the Virginia League of Conservation Voters in the 9th Edition of the Legislative Conservation Scorecard , earning a score of 100%. The publication rates individual legislators on a series of important conservation votes cast during the 2008 General Assembly session

"I'm honored to be recognized by the League," said Vanderhye. "Environmental issues are crucial to the quality of life for my constituents in McLean, Great Falls, Herndon, and Vienna."

Sales Tax Holidays Benefit Back-to School Shoppers and Purchasers of Energy and Water Saving Devices

Virginia Sales Tax Holiday McLean Delegate Margi Vanderhye reminds Virginia consumers that next weekend (August 1-3) families can take advantage of Virginia's Back to School Sales Tax Holiday.

“Getting kids ready to go back to school is a significant expense for most families,” Vanderhye said. “During this sales tax holiday, consumers may purchase school supplies, clothing, and footwear free of the 5% Virginia sales tax.”

Tax-exempt items include some that are easily classified as "school supplies" such as pens and pencils, notebooks, and paper. The sales tax holiday also applies to other items such as musical instruments and sheet music. The complete listing of qualifying items is available at the Virginia Department of Taxation Web site.

Contrary to legislative updates mailed in June, school computer equipment and supplies do not qualify for the tax holiday.
